Biography

Elisha Kent Kane, born February 3, 1820 in Philadelphia, was the eldest of seven children.  He is best known for his duties as a surgeon on the expedition in search of Franklin's voyage, the first and second Grinnell Expeditions, and his position as Assistant Surgeon in the U.S. Navy.  He died of heart disease in Havana, Cuba on February 16, 1857.
