Biography
In his Crocker Land Expedition lecture (original in the Bowdoin College Library), Donald MacMillan wrote, "...the University of Illinois was very much interested in the results of our proposed trip. It at once decided to have two of its professors join the so-called Crocker Land Expedition as scientists: Maurice Cole Tanquary, the holder of three degrees, A.B., A.M., and Ph.D. was our Zoologist. Due to his cheerful disposition and his singing voice, he was a good companion and cheerful member of the group. He accompanied me on that long, cold, dark night to South Greenland during the winter of 1914-1915."
Tanquary was born November 26, 1881. He was educated at Vincennes University and the University of Illinois. He taught at the Kansas State Agricultural College and, after the Crocker Land Expedition, became chief of entomology at the Texas Agricultural Experimental Station in 1919. He later worked as a professional beekeeper, and taught apiculture at the University of Minnesota until his death in 1944.
