The pants are part of the outfit worn by Donald MacMillan on the 1908-1909 North Pole expedition, along with the caribou jacket (1966.129.1). They were sewn by an Inughit women using traditional materials and patterns, with the exception of the buttons at the waist band. Men in northwestern Greenland wore pants made of polar bear skin for their durability and warmth.
