Wind and tides build up high pressure ridges of jumbled sea ice, and a pick-ax was needed to hew a trail for the sledges. Next to the manufacturer's mark are stamped a five-pointed crown with the word Legitimo, U.S. [indistinct] and 3 indistinct initials, possibly TJN.
