The Dutch Treat Club (founded 1905) gave medals like these to its Tuesday luncheon speakers. Members came from New York City's creative community of artists, writers and editors, musicians and theatre people and agents, among others. Lowell Thomas was president 1978-1981. It's possible that either DBM or MLM addressed the club, explaining why this medal was among the MacMillans' posessions.
