Expedition members used standard barometers as well as recording barographs like this, which records air pressure changes on paper for surface weather observations. The chart now on the instrument is labeled in ink "September 13th 1909" and records the barometric pressure from Monday through Monday (although the chart has run over). Number 1058 is stamped into brass base, as is an indistinct circular mark with R.F. in the center and words around the ring. Plaque is engraved, "Com. Robert E. Peary March 23rd 1905."

Stereo view cards were a popular form of entertainment in the Victorian era and early 20th century, and covered a world-wide selection of subjects. Each card has two identical images side-by-side. Through the special viewer, the images blend to appear three-dimensional. The Keystone View Company issued this Arctic set.

natural history specimen
This is a tiny fragment of the "Tent," or "Ahnigito," meteorite from Cape York, Greenland. Its polished surface shows the structure of the meteoric iron.
In the summers of 1896 and 1897 Robert Peary prepared to bring it back, eventually to be sold to the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Originally it and other meteorites had been an important source of iron for the Inguhuit, but by the 1890s they were using industrial iron and steel.

transportation
One of five sledges that made the final trek to the Pole, this was most likely built aboard the SS Roosevelt by Matthew Henson, to Peary's own design. It has a strong blunt nose to resist shock, and a rounded or "knockabout" bow for rough work. Made primarily of oak lashed together with rawhide, the sledge has steel runners. It has been repaired on the trail with wood scavenged from other sledges, reflecting the difficulty of the trip.
It was named for Thomas Hubbard, a major supporter of Peary's Arctic work.
